
What do I need to rent a car in Finland with 24Rent?
In Finland, car rental is regulated and fully digitalized with 24Rent – here’s everything you need to know to get approved and start driving.
Renting a car in Finland is straightforward when you know the rules. With 24Rent, the process is entirely digital, but you’ll need to meet both the legal requirements set in Finland and our own service-specific criteria. Here’s everything you should know before booking.
1. Your own Driving License
- Bookings must always be made by the person who will be driving the car. Do not book on behalf of someone else.
- EU/EEA licenses are accepted.
- Non-EU licenses are valid if they follow the Geneva or Vienna Conventions.
- If your license is in another language, carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) for clarity.
2. Credit or Debit card (we suggest Visa or MasterCard)
- A valid credit or debit card in your name.
- Prepaid or cash payments are not supported.
3. 24Rent app & internet connection
- The 24Rent app is required to unlock and manage your rental. No keys, no offices.
As required by Finnish law, we check both the driver’s license and a photo of the driver for every booking!

First Booking, Last-Minute Rentals, and Driver Verification
For first-time customers, last-minute bookings starting at night (between 21:00 and 09:00 (9pm-9am) are not accepted. This is because every new customer’s reservation, driver’s license, and photo must be verified in advance before the rental can begin.
We recommend that first-time renters make their booking well ahead of time and provide the required documents early to ensure a smooth start to their rental.
Eligibility Criteria with 24Rent
In addition to Finnish regulations, 24Rent applies the following conditions:
Minimum age 19 years – some of our vehicles require the driver to be at least 21 years old
License must have been held for at least 12 months.
Payment card must be valid throughout the rental.
All bookings require uploading a driver’s photo and driver’s license for verification.

Choose and Pay – Select the city, time, and vehicle type in the 24Rent app or on our website. Complete the payment to confirm your booking.
Verification – We check the driver’s license, photo, and age for every booking. You will need the 24Rent app to complete this step.
Confirmation – Once your license, photo, and age are verified, your booking is confirmed and ready to go!
Access the vehicle – At the start time, use the 24Rent app to unlock the car doors. The keys are already inside the vehicle.
Drive worry-free – During your rental, our customer support is available to assist you, and 24/7 roadside assistance is always included for your safety.
Return easily – Refuel the car, return it to its designated location, and end your booking using the 24Rent app.
When a Security Deposit May Apply
For some bookings, a security deposit may be required. The deposit is reserved on your payment card before the rental begins and released automatically after the vehicle is returned in good condition.”
